“Art is anything you can get away with”
- Andy Warhol
Art History Perspectives was born from a combination of passion, uncertainty, and a tiny bit of boredom. Art History Perspectives is a blog, and hopefully will become a brand, that strives to make art history more accessible to a broad and diverse audience. Frankly, art history is a frontier full of unexplored information and untold stories, and this platform seeks to explore and explain those areas of art history that may be overlooked. If you have ever been curious about the finer details of the art world this is a wonderful place to start. When we look into these areas we can gain a better understanding of artists, movement, and masterpieces that shaped the world that we live in.
Rebecca McInerney is a recent graduate of The Catholic University of America class of 2020. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, which makes her feel only partially qualified to discuss the intricacies of the art world. However, she is deeply passionate about sharing art history stories with anyone who will listen.
In order to graduate she completed two thesis papers. The first concerned the relationship, or possible lack of one, between Sandro Botticelli and the Dominican monk Savonarola. The second was an investigation of Andy Warhol’s appropriation of Renaissance works throughout his career. This research project was also submitted to Catholic University’s annual Research Day.
Rebecca’s favorite artists are currently Gianlorenzo Bernini, Sandro Botticelli, Antonio Canova, Judy Chicago, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Stuart Semple.
